La Follette Wines, 2010, Pinot Noir, North Coast

Had a glass at Carpe Diem–actually two–on Thursday 1/12/12.  What a gorgeous, light, earth and floral-driven fruit balloon of a North Coast Pinot.  Those experienced, even slightly, with North Coast Pinots can recognize the region’s jig on the palate.  I spoke to Carpe’s co-owner Stephanie about this new addition to their wine list, about how uprightly vocal it is for such a youngster Burgundy.  She informed me that they are surprised at how well it’s been received for a ’10, and how so many order it with meals.  Or just to sip.  Carpe has a number of impressive wines on their list, almost an intimidating compendium of character types, but this selection, this beautifully musical and feminine Pinot from the North Coast AVA, and worrisome 2010 vintage, promises enrapture.  Heavenly hook of a Pinot …
